At Your Cervix - Women's Health Month Online Screening
In conjunction with National Women’s Health Month (May) the award-winning documentary, At Your Cervix will be screening online for one week only: May 26 - June 2.
At Your Cervix follows sexuality educator, activist and filmmaker A'magine Nation on her journey to expose the hidden practice of medical students learning to perform pelvic exams on anesthetized patients without their consent. This practice has been rightfully called "medical sexual assault." The film features interviews with students, patients, doctors, midwives, politicians and advocates offering compelling and often deeply emotional testimony as to why this practice must end.
In this political time, when women’s health concerns are being sidelined, and even erased, films like At Your Cervix are critical. Eighty-four percent of medical students have done non-consensual exams on patients under anesthesia, most of whom do not know about it. Black patients are four times more likely to experience a non-consensual intimate exam. At Your Cervix exposes this practice, and the systemic issues that have made it proliferate since the dawn of gynecology.
At Your Cervix is a must-see film that will leave viewers with a deeper understanding of the importance of consent in healthcare, not only for patients, but also for students of medicine. Join the movement to end non-consensual pelvic exams and watch At Your Cervix May 26 - June 2.
>>>>>> BONUS PANEL DISCUSSION <<<<<<<<
With your ticket purchase, you will get access to our panel discussion, Ending Medical Sexual Assault: Ethical and Trauma-Informed Care Practices for Patients and Providers. All ticket holders will be sent a link to the pre-recorded panel which will be available until June 15, 2025.
In this panel discussion, we discuss why we need to call “medical sexual assault” what it is, what makes that hard, what trauma-informed care looks like and how clinical training impacts the care patients ultimately receive. Our panelists share how we got here, what we can do and are doing legislatively, what our legal rights are, and talk about the larger issue of the culture within patient-provider relationships and the system of medicine that has allowed MSA to go on unmitigated for so long.
This panel features an incredible list of experts: Stephanie Tillman (Repro TLC; the“Feminist Midwife”), Shanti Moore (SisterSong), Maria Alejandra Cardenas (Center for Reproductive Rights), Sofia Rosenberg-Klainberg (Nurses for Sexual and Reproductive Health) and Elizabeth Newman (Colorado Coalition Against Sexual Assault) and is moderated by At Your Cervix Director and Producer A’magine.
About the film
At Your Cervix breaks the silence about how medical students learn to perform pelvic exams. Following filmmaker and sexuality educator, A’magine, the film exposes how students are often taught on unconscious patients without their knowledge or consent. Interviews with students, patients, doctors, midwives, politicians and advocates provide compelling and often deeply emotional testimony as to why nonconsensual and unethical pelvic exams on patients under anesthesia must end. The film offers an empowering solution that will revolutionize how pelvic exams are taught and performed in schools and clinics across the country.
