Whether you're new to William Faulkner and his works or an avid follower of his work - we invite you to check out the award-winning film Faulkner: The Past Is Never Dead. This documentary film shares William Faulkner's upbringing, the struggles and achievements he ran into and how all of this culminated into one of the most relevant and important figures in American literature. As we've screened these films, we are traveling around the world to see how Faulkner has influenced global cultures from France to Japan to Russia and beyond.

This film will be viewable from September 5th - September 7th to allow our audience to check out the film ahead of a live Q&A (on Zoom) with our Japanese Faulkner Scholar Koichi Fujino.

About Our Scholar

Koichi Fujino has been a faculty member since 2002 in the Department of Literature at Seinan Gakuin University, where he also directs the Center for Language Education. Fujino completed his doctoral degree at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and his Master of Arts and undergraduate studies at Waseda University. His research interests lie in the areas of the literature of the American South, American modernism and literary education for students studying English.

Fujino is the author of the 2018 book Studying and Teaching W.C. Falkner, William Faulkner, and Digital Literacy and editor of American Modernism and Popular Fiction: Writers of Modern Life and Desire, 1920s to 1950s published in 2019. He has also co-edited three textbooks on American culture for Japanese students and currently serves as the secretary general of the Kyushu American Literature Society.
