Whether you're new to William Faulkner and his works or an avid follower of his work - we invite you to check out the award-winning film Faulkner: The Past Is Never Dead. This documentary film shares William Faulkner's upbringing, the struggles and achievements he ran into and how all of this culminated into one of the most relevant and important figures in American literature. As we've screened these films, we are traveling around the world to see how Faulkner has influenced global cultures from France to Japan to Russia and beyond.

This film will be viewable from December 12th - December 14th to allow our audience to check out the film ahead of a live Q&A (on Zoom) with our Faulkner Scholar.

About Faulkner Scholar Bernard Joy:

Bernard T. Joy is a writer, researcher, and educator living in Scotland. He earned his PhD in December 2021 from the University of Glasgow. His thesis explored philosophical notions of truth in the works of William Faulkner. He has taught in the secondary sector since 2012 and has also held teaching positions at several institutions of further education, including the University of Glasgow. His research focusses on American literature, the literature of the American South, intersections between American and European literature and culture, African American literature, theories of modernity, literature and philosophy, and the visual phenomenologies of literary texts. His work has been published with The Faulkner Journal, the Faulkner and Yoknapatawpha book series, Lexington Books, Bloomsbury, Palgrave Macmillan, Cambridge University Press, and elsewhere.
