HOW TO POISON A PLANET - a World Water Film Festival / Chicago Water Week Event
Toxic chemicals are in our water. This is the story of the people who fought to expose the truth.
Join us for a powerful screening of How to Poison a Planet, a feature documentary that traces the decades-long cover-up of PFAS contamination in American communities—and the fight to hold those responsible accountable. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Katrina McGowan and featuring actor and activist Mark Ruffalo, the film sheds light on the impact of “forever chemicals” and the lives forever changed by them.
The evening will also include a screening of The Disappearing Man, a short film about environmental invisibility and resilience, followed by a panel discussion with leading voices in law, science, and advocacy:
Rob Bilott, Environmental Attorney, Taft Law
Gary Douglas, Lead Counsel, $12.5B 3M PFAS Settlement
Rebecca Newman, Senior Associate, Douglas & London
Dr. Junhong Chen, Crown Family Professor of Molecular Engineering, University of Chicago
Michael Strande, Father of Amara Strande, featured in the film

About the film
With behind the scenes access to the largest litigation involving drinking water in American history, How to Poison A Planet investigates how the use of a product as seemingly harmless as firefighting foam, has resulted in the contamination of communities all over the world. Spanning from the heart of New York City to a small First Nations community in Australia the film exposes one of the most widespread environmental disasters in human history.
