About the event
To celebrate Left Behind's nomination for the NAACP Image Awards Outstanding Documentary Film, we are offering a free virtual screening til February 13th.
"Left Behind” is a powerful documentary that exposes the profound human cost of America’s literacy crisis through the voices of families, educators, and young people.
It challenges viewers to confront how systemic failures in reading instruction have shaped generations—and what it will take to change the trajectory. Urgent, emotional, and deeply hopeful, the film calls on all of us to demand a future where every child learns to read.
About the film
This gripping feature documentary tells the story of five tenacious mothers determined to establish the first public school in New York City for children with dyslexia. Addressing a learning disability that impacts an estimated 200,000 students in NYC, and roughly 20% of the public at large, the mothers’ struggle to upend the nation’s largest public school system and garner support to open the South Bronx Literacy Academy in September 2023.
