Life After: Virtual Film Screening and Community Conversation
Join Sexy Disabled Folks and Intersectional Access for a virtual screening of the documentary Life After, followed by a community conversation.
Life After examines the complicated and deeply personal realities surrounding disability, autonomy, and survival. Through powerful storytelling and lived experience, the film invites viewers to reflect on the value society places on disabled lives and the systems that shape decisions about care, support, and the right to live with dignity.
This screening is an opportunity to watch together in community and engage in thoughtful dialogue about disability justice, bodily autonomy, and the futures we are fighting to build.
Following the film, participants will be invited to stay for a facilitated discussion reflecting on the themes of the film and how they connect to our own communities, advocacy, and collective care.
About the film
LIFE AFTER probes the legacy of Elizabeth Bouvia — a disabled woman who, at the age of 26, sought “the right to die,” provoking a national debate about autonomy, dignity, and the value of disabled lives. Disabled filmmaker Reid Davenport uncovers chilling echoes of her 1983 case in contemporary stories of disabled people dying prematurely — at their own hands and from a broken health care system.
