Join us for this very special screening to help keep Green Bank Observatory fully funded as an Open Skies science and education facility.  Together with our partners at Get Organized for the Green Bank Observatory (GO! GBO) we're coming together to support the GBO as a result of the threat from the 2026 fiscal year proposed budget to significantly cut the GBO's funding and further, its recommendation for decommissioning and disposition of the facility.  

What does this mean? It means the GBO might be shut down. And we can't let that happen. 

GBO is a vital part of West Virginia, providing over 100 jobs in a very rural setting, contributing approx. $30 million to WV’s economy, making groundbreaking discoveries with its state-of-the-art Green Bank Telescope and other equipment on site, and providing a STEM career pipeline by inspiring our next generation of researchers, innovators, and leaders with its unique and world-renowned education programs - something we can't afford to lose.

 explores life in a remote town called Green Bank, West Virginia — defined by the National Radio Quiet Zone, where restrictions on wireless technology, like cell phones and Wi-Fi, preserve the work of the Green Bank Telescope.

The film follows four unique residents whose lives are intertwined with the Green Bank Telescope: a young woman dreaming of a career in astrophysics, a retired engineer reflecting on his legacy, a longtime local rooted in Green Bank's history, and a newcomer embracing life off-the-grid.

As federal funding hangs in the balance, their futures are inextricably tied to the survival of this scientific marvel and the Quiet Zone that makes it all possible.
