The Architects of Hope: The First Steps in Rebuilding Ukraine - Screening Resilience with The Civilian Agenda

Screening Resilience is The Civilian Agenda’s monthly screening series for 2026 - bringing together newer and older films to raise awareness and ensure that no civilian voice in war is lost. Each screening is an invitation to listen carefully: to the stories people survive, the memories communities carry, and the realities that persist as violence continues. By resurfacing older voices alongside more recent work, we aim to hold space for what is too often forgotten.

About the film

Winning multiple awards and filmed in English, The Architects of Hope is an immersive and uplifting journey to the heart of Ukraine following 5 leading architects on their determined journeys to continue creating & building during wartime. Many people were displaced in the early months of the war and many careers were seemingly over. But architects are a resilient bunch and the paradox of destruction brings with it a host of intriguing creative problems for these architects to solve.

As bold new architectural projects begin to rise again, the film also follows students from the Kharkiv School of Architecture, as they begin their own journeys preparing for the long term rebuilding of Ukraine. The work of these architects underscores the vital role of having a strong vision - because for them, hope is not merely wishful thinking. Hope is the essential first step in imagining the future world you want to live in.
