About the event
THE CHOICE follows Eger alongside Iris Haim, an Israeli mother who turns to Eger’s book as a lifeline after the loss of her son, Yotam, and Sapir Cohen, a former hostage who, without having read Eger’s work, discovers the lesson that has defined Eger’s life: that even when freedom is stripped away, no one can take away the power to choose how to live.
Through archival footage, intimate interviews, public appearances, audio recordings, and personal writings, THE CHOICE explores how trauma can reverberate across generations, and how healing can travel the same distance.
Directed by Emmy Award-winning director John David Coles (House of Cards, Homeland). Winner of the 2026 Brizzolara Family Foundation Award for a film on Conflict and Resolution at the Hamptons International Film Festival, and an Official Selection of the Berkshire International Film Festival.
After the screening, join a live conversation with John David Coles and Dr. Marianne Engle, psychologist, executive producer, and Edie’s daughter.
Special guests to be announced.
About the film
"You can't change what happened, you can't change what you did or what was done to you. But you can choose how you live now. My precious, you can choose to be free."
That simple, searing idea sits at the heart of Dr. Edith Eger's life and work, and at the center of The Choice, a haunting and ultimately hopeful documentary about three women forever marked by war, captivity, and loss.
The Choice follows Dr. Edith "Edie" Eger, the renowned psychologist, Holocaust survivor, and author of the New York Times bestselling memoir The Choice: Embrace the Possible; Iris Haim, an Israeli mother who turns to Eger's book as a lifeline after the loss of her son, Yotam; and Sapir Cohen, a former hostage who, without having read Eger's work, discovers the very lesson that has defined Eger's life: that even when freedom is stripped away, no one can take away the power to choose how to live.
