Southern Documentary Fund (SDF) champions Southern documentary makers and stories. Inspired by our belief in the power of media to change lives, we provide documentarians with resources, including grants, fiscal sponsorship, and mentorship–all to promote Southern stories and lower barriers for documentary makers and underrepresented voices.

SDF screenings on Kinema feature some of the amazing projects SDF has supported since its founding in 2002. This live event will be followed by a conversation between filmmaker Kenny Dalsheimer and SDF Artistic Director, Christopher Everett. For more information about SDF visit:

You Gave Me a Song: The Life and Music of Alice Gerrard

 offers an intimate portrait of old-time music pioneer Alice Gerrard and her remarkable, unpredictable journey creating and preserving traditional music. The film follows Gerrard over several years, weaving together intimate living room rehearsals, recording sessions, songwriting, archival work, and performances with photos and rare field recordings. Much of the film is told in Alice’s voice and via interviews with musical collaborators and family members who share the story of Alice and others chasing that high lonesome sound.
