Israelism focuses on two young American Jews, one who lived in Israel and the other who joined the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) after graduating high school. Like many young American Jews, they were raised in a system of education and advocacy that demands pro-Israeli activism. The film follows the evolution of their position on Israel after witnessing how Israel treats Palestinians. They join a movement of Jews, many of them young, who are redefining Judaisms relationship with Israel. The film argues that some American Jews are told a story about Jews escaping persecution and genocide to return to their ancestral homeland that almost entirely erases the existence of Palestinians. It's a narrative that has been incredibly influential in shaping global attitudes about the Israeli state and US alliances in the Southwest Asia and North Africa region.

Please arrive by 4 p.m. to grab some refreshments and hear members of our local Jewish community share personal perspectives and introduce the film.

The film is 1.5 hours long, and will be followed by discussion with a member of the film team.
