The Community Food Network (NmTC CFN) is a virtual space for NmTC member First Nations
working in a variety of food-related roles within their communities to come
together to share and develop their ideas, knowledge and skills on a variety of
food topics; brainstorm through challenges they may be facing; and encourage
and uplift one another in their work. 

​The network emerged a few months into the COVID-19 pandemic when many First Nations experienced interruptions and restrictions affecting food supply and access. This resulted in emergency procurement arrangements, new community partnerships, and renewed urgency for
long-term community-based food production through traditional harvesting,
community gardens, farms, and other means. 

The network also hosts various food-related workshops and screenings throughout the year that are often open to the general public. 

During this screening, I encourage you all to think about what food sovereignty means to you and your community. What strengths does your community have in the context of food sovereignty?  What barriers does your community face in achieving food sovereignty? If you are non-Indigenous, how do the choices you make impact Indigenous food sovereignty?
