Dying to Know Day Premiere + Q&A with Filmmakers and Leading End-of-Life Experts
Join us for the highly anticipated Australian film premiere screening of The Last Ecstatic Days, followed by a thought-provoking discussion with the filmmakers and leading Australian end-of-life experts.
Ethan Sisser, a young man with terminal brain cancer, sits alone in his hospital room. When he starts livestreaming his death journey on social media, thousands of people around the world join to celebrate his courage. Still, Ethan envisions more – to teach the world how to die without fear. To do that, he needs to film his death.
The Last Ecstatic Days intimately captures the end of Ethan's life as he openly shares his final days. In doing so, the film courageously dismantles what for many of us is our ultimate fear, and normalises having meaningful conversations with those we love about how we want to die. It's also a powerful example of how to build a community to support loved ones in their final days.
The discussion panel will provide a local context to the film for Australian audiences, explore the themes of personalising final arrangements & building community support, and give their unique insights into the making of The Last Ecstatic Days.

Scott Kirschenbaum, Director of The Last Ecstatic Days

About the film
Ethan Sisser, a young man with terminal brain cancer, sits alone in his hospital room. When he starts livestreaming his death journey on social media, thousands of people around the world join to celebrate his courage. Still, Ethan envisions more – to teach the world how to die without fear. To do that, he needs to film his death.
Honoring Ethan's wish, his doctor Aditi Sethi transports him to an idyllic house in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. What unfolds next is a story rarely glimpsed: how a community of strangers helps a young man die with grace.
A sensory immersion into leaving the body, “The Last Ecstatic Days” reveals a man who will not let us forget him – even after he’s taken his final breath.
