Watch "The Last Ecstatic Days" with Nina Rao & Aditi Sethi
Post-screening discussion with Nina Rao & Aditi Sethi moderated by producer, Prerana Thakurdesai
Dr. Aditi Sethi is a hospice and palliative care physician, end-of-life doula, musician and executive director of Center for Conscious Living & Dying. Featured in The Last Ecstatic Days, Aditi is an emerging and important voice for shifting our culture’s understanding and approach to dying, death, and bereavement care.
Nina first learned bhajans as a young girl from her grandfather, and the chants stayed quietly with her until she rediscovered this powerful practice with Krishna Das in New York in 1996. Since then she has been KD’s business manager and accompanies him musically. In 1998 she met her guru, Sri Siddhi Ma in the foothills of the Himalayas and spent time with her regularly for 19 years. She has been chanting regularly as her main practice, has recorded albums, leads chant events, studies Veda chanting and, sacred texts, is a hospice volunteer, is a podcast host, goes on yatra/pilgrimage, and is a wildlife conservationist. About the film
Ethan Sisser, a young man with terminal brain cancer, sits alone in his hospital room. When he starts livestreaming his death journey on social media, thousands of people around the world join to celebrate his courage. Still, Ethan envisions more – to teach the world how to die without fear. To do that, he needs to film his death.
Honoring Ethan's wish, his doctor Aditi Sethi transports him to an idyllic house in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. What unfolds next is a story rarely glimpsed: how a community of strangers helps a young man die with grace.
A sensory immersion into leaving the body, “The Last Ecstatic Days” reveals a man who will not let us forget him – even after he’s taken his final breath.
