Ethan Sisser, un joven con cáncer cerebral terminal, está solo en su habitación del hospital. Cuando empieza a retransmitir en directo su viaje hacia la muerte en las redes sociales, miles de personas de todo el mundo se unen para celebrar su valentía. Sin embargo, Ethan se propone algo más: enseñar al mundo a morir sin miedo. Para ello, necesita filmar su muerte.

Cumpliendo el deseo de Ethan, su médica Aditi Sethi lo traslada a una idílica casa en las montañas Blue Ridge de Asheville, Carolina del Norte. Lo que se desarrolla a continuación es una historia pocas veces vista: cómo una comunidad de desconocidos ayuda a un joven a morir con dignidad.
