UNC American Indian Center presents: Gather
Come join the UNC American Indian Center for a film screening of the new documentary "Gather", a depiction of Native foodways across Indian Country. We will watch the film together, hearing from Native farmers, gatherers, and chefs about how they are carrying forward traditional foods. Stay for the Zoom discussion group afterwards to discuss the film and how it connects to food work in our own communities. Across North Carolina, Tribal Nations have vibrant living traditions of annual harvests, feasts, community gardens, and traditional foodways celebrations. Food sovereignty is a timely topic, and we look forward to discussing both this film and our local movement! Zoom discussion link, join after the film: https://unc.zoom.us/j/91545769520
About the film
A portrait of a growing movement amongst Indigenous Americans to reclaim their spiritual and cultural identities through obtaining sovereignty over their ancestral food systems, while battling against the historical trauma brought on by centuries of genocide.
