About the event
Step into the profound narrative of "When the Olive Trees Weep," a compelling documentary by New Watermelon Productions that offers a searing window into the struggles and resilience of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation. This film dives deep into themes of loss, trauma, and the quest for justice, weaving together the personal stories of individuals like Palestinian journalist and therapist Ashira Darwish, grassroots activist Ahed Tamimi, and Israeli journalist Amira Hass.
In addition, "When the Olive Trees Weep" captures the transformative trauma-healing work of Dr. Gabor Maté with a group of Palestinian women. Against ancient landscapes scarred by ancestral land confiscation, expulsions, and home demolitions, the film portrays the stark realities of deprivation and the denial of basic human rights.
Yet, amidst these hardships, the documentary reveals the enduring resilience of the Palestinian people, rooted deeply in their history and culture. It confronts the profound question of why oppression persists with such ruthless blindness.
Join us at Dhameer for an evening of cinematic enlightenment and solidarity. This screening is not just an opportunity to witness powerful storytelling and breathtaking landscapes; it's a call to action, urging us to reflect on our roles in advocating for justice and human rights. "When the Olive Trees Weep" promises to provoke thought, inspire empathy, and ignite a passion for change. Together, let's amplify the voices of those who have been silenced and stand in solidarity with Palestine's journey towards liberation and peace.
