What people are saying

If dying is indeed an art, Jack Tuller is practically Picasso. Jack Has a Plan is actually more about living than dying, as Berman’s camera follows Jack off and on over several years, focusing not just on his illness but his quest to discover his own familial identity. And, like Jack, the movie never loses its sense of humor.

Cameron Meier

Meier Movies

Far from a downer, it is indeed a film about death, but it’s as joyous, thrilling and funny as any film about death could be.

Jeffrey M. Anderson

San Francisco Examiner

The range of emotions expressed over the last third of the film—the countdown clock wiping away the days—run from fathomless love to quiet disbelief to utter sadness to tearful acceptance. The film ably covers all the bases for bits and bites from friends and family. But for Jack, he likes going out in his own blaze of glory. Under the same circumstances, we should all be so lucky to share his determined fortitude.

Elias Savada

Film International

This film is extraordinary; it feels raw, authentic, and powerfully stirring. The film does an outstanding job capturing the complex family dynamics that often arise at the end, and the desire of friends and family to keep their loved one around for longer—the bargaining for time, the idea that you still look "fine" now, the notion that you are taking yourself away from them. JACK HAS A PLAN is a gem.

Our brain tumor support group got so much out of this film. Most of all, the film made us calibrate our priorities for end-of-life scenarios, reaffirmed our gratitude for life and living it fully, and increased our awareness of how our diagnoses and deficits affect loved ones.

Beth Kohn

Member, UCSF Brain Tumor Support Group

JACK HAS A PLAN is a documentary of a man on a mission to die on his own terms. What the documentary does best is give the audience a full view of Jack’s vibrant personality, as well as the effect his spirit had on others. He dances freely in his living room, wears a constant smile on his face, and carries not an ounce of cynicism in him. It is through his life that one learns what it means to truly live, and to leave a mark on others.

Vanessa Tirok

New Jersey Stage

JACK HAS A PLAN is a truly touching movie. Jack reminds us that we are multi-faceted beings and that holistic care is desperately needed especially in chronic serious illness. This movie is an excellent teaching tool for hospice and palliative teams, medical students, residents, hospitalists, specialists, and all multidisciplinary teams caring for patients coping with serious illness.

Dr. Vanessa Mandal

Greater Sacramento Palliative & Hospice Group

The documentary not only focuses on themes of death and dying but celebrates the abundant joy and complex love the ever-exuberant Tuller experienced from friends and family as he made a tremendously difficult choice. The story is universal and transformative.
