About the film
Poet, painter, performer, and sculptor, Robert Janz (1932-2021) was an artist without boundaries. The enduring theme of his work was transience and change, and many of his works are brief interventions in the environment, town and country. In 2012 at the age of 80 he went back to city streets to participate directly in a burgeoning street art scene. Soon lower Manhattan was papered with his images of nature, wild beasts, and 3-word poems. With its constant erasure and rebuilding the city performed the flux and change that Janz was so committed to. Janz in the Moment follows the artist over several years, while discovering a surprising past of major art world recognition. We see an artist adhering to the ethos of modest materials, spontaneity and directness, as Janz in the Moment illuminates a life of amazing creativity.
