Six Inches of Soil

 for an additional £5 per person, Harwich-based baker and food sovereignty worker Maisie Dyvig will be supplying a light supper for the evening. Hodmedods yellow split peas, locally grown greens and Flanders flour wholemeal bread. Maisie is a local food treasure, having worked at Wakelyns Bakery in Suffolk and The Wholefood Cafe in Manningtree. Do not miss your chance to eat her soul warming food.

A community-run cafe in the Minories art Gallery, run and managed by Common Ground Colchester community cooperative. Common Ground coop is a community kitchen cafe, designed to meet the needs of the community and is democratically managed with an open and accessible membership policy from just £10 annually. Providing affordable, nourishing food, cooked by local people and inspired by local produce. Common Groud supports local growers and landworkers, contributing to the local food economy and paying local people a living wage.

Agroecology is an approach to farming that includes ‘regenerative’ farming techniques that work in harmony with, rather than against nature. It focuses on local food systems and shorter supply chains. The advantages are numerous: we get to know who is growing our food and how, farmers get paid a fair price and have the satisfaction of producing healthy food in a healthy environment. Agroecology may also be our best chance in the face of climate change: it keeps carbon in the ground and creates resilient systems in the face of climate uncertainty.

Please join us for an evening of film, food and discussion. Food will be provided for 7pm by the team at Anello (www.anellopizza.co.uk) for £6 (think a veggie stew and Focaccia). A bar will also be run by the team at Marsden Mechanics. The film will start at 7.30 and finish at approximately 9pm. 

The screening will be followed by guest speakers and a Q&A hosted by Jack Norman from the Anello kitchen Garden (www.anellokitchengarden.co.uk)

On Environment Sunday 2 June 2024 the Friends of St Peter’s Church Horningsea are delighted to be able to show the acclaimed film ‘Six Inches of Soil” with an introduction by the Director Colin Ramsay. Built as part of the Clarence Way Estate in the 1960s, the Camden Council-owned Clarence Hall has recently undergone a renovation and is now managed by our Community Association.  We are using the hall for our new Sharing Spaces project,in collaboration with Camden Think & Do and Ashden, funded by The Kusuma Trust,  where people can come together to share skills and knowledge around making or mending things, recycling, gardening for foodgrowing and nature.

As part of Great Big Green Week, Weymouth Climate Hub is screening the eagerly anticipated documentary film, Six Inches of Soil. The film tells the inspiring story of young British farmers standing up against the industrial food system and transforming the way they produce food - to heal the soil, our health and provide for local communities. 

The screening will take place at St Nic's Gallery, at 2pm on Sunday 16th June and will be followed by a panel discussion on how best to transform agriculture in the UK.

The screening will be in St Nic's Gallery, an independent art space in the centre of Weymouth, who have kindly offered to host our events for the weekend.

The film showing will feature as part of our Essex Green Weekend at Othona Bradwell. This is our third year of running this event, it is a small family friendly festival which welcomes everyone who is interested or concerned about "green" matters. We have artists and activists, permaculturists and scholars. We also have an eclectic range of music acts. The event is run in partnership with Trustlinks charity over the 14th- 17th June. The Othona Community

We are a small off-grid community on the Blackwater Estuary. We have plenty of parking available for visitors, a large dining room and lounge, where the film will be shown and accessible facilities. There will be refreshements available including a licensed bar with beer, wine and soft drinks.

Cairngorms National Park Authority are hosting a screening of ‘Six Inches of Soil’, a film telling the story of young farmers, communities, small businesses chefs, and entrepreneurs who are leading the way to transform how our food is produced and consumed.

The film tells the story of three young British farmers practicing regenerative farming principles within an agroecological system to promote affordable food, support farm biodiversity and sequester carbon.

The connections between food and health, connecting with the land, barriers to new entrant farmers, food poverty and affordability are all explored in this remarkable film which will be following by a Q&A session with a panel of professionals.
