Black Voices, Black Perspectives

Share

In February we hosted a virtual screening series celebrating and elevating Black representation and perspectives in film. All screenings were virtual and featured filmmakers and special guests for live audience Q&A’s.

Black stories, like Black voices and perspectives are vast and varied. Black stories call for justice, for equality, they call for peace and second chances, they bring us joy, help us to grieve and take us home to spaces we may have forgotten. At Kinema, we are proud to offer a curated selection of films highlighting timely issues resonating within Black communities to celebrate Black History Month.

If you missed the live events, you can still support Black stories and perspectives by showing these films:

Every Black History month we not only celebrate, we also acknowledge the need for Black representation in film and media. We see that oftentimes Black stories are told through the lenses of other races and ethnicities. We acknowledge that Black films, because of generations of under- and misrepresentation, can at times be narrowed. As Black stories begin to emerge, yes, this is just the beginning, Kinema is committed and excited to use our platform to promote and propel Black stories and Black filmmakers year round through monthly screenings of Black films.

Black Voices, Black Perspectives Virtual Film Festival featured live film events every week February. Films we're paired with conversations between the filmmakers, special guests and co-hosts.

Additionally, for the month of February, we waived all platform access fees for any filmmaker of color to make their film available on Kinema.

You can also support Black stories by hosting your own screening event. Check out the curated collection now available for booking now!
