About the event
Accidental Expat is a narrative film that tells the powerful story of Raymond, a 21-year-old DACA DREAMer from Texas who is deported and forced to start over in Mexico City. Unable to speak Spanish and unfamiliar with the culture, Raymond is a true "fish out of water"—just like many DREAMers who are returned to countries they left as infants or young children.
As the 2024 election draws near, this screening aims to raise awareness of the critical issues facing DACA DREAMers, especially as their status heads to the Supreme Court.
We hope this film offers a compelling perspective on the harsh realities faced by those who have been deported or are contemplating self-deportation, while also highlighting the profound impact and unintended consequences of our current political system. It provides a vivid glimpse into what life might look like after such life-altering decisions, shaped by policies that affect countless individuals and communities.
