Ethan Sisser, a young man with terminal brain cancer, sits alone in his hospital room. When he starts live streaming his death journey on social media, thousands of people around the world join in celebrating his courage. Still, Ethan envisions more – to teach the world how to die without fear. To do that, he needs to film his death.

Aditi Sethi MD:

Dr. Aditi Sethi features in the documentary “The Last Ecstatic Days,” Aditi is an emerging and important voice for shifting our culture’s understanding and approach to dying, death, and bereavement care.  Aditi Sethi has recently presented a TED Talk, The Art of Dying Before You Die. Aditi Sethi is a hospice and palliative care physician, Executive Director of the Center for Conscious Living and Dying, end-of-life doula, and musician, and will joins us from Asheville, NC, USA.

Alice Gardner - Clinical Nurse Educator, Northern Specialist Palliative Care Service:

Alice is a Clinical Nurse Educator with the Specialist Palliative Care Service in Northern Tasmania. She plays a key role in a multidisciplinary team, delivering palliative care topatients, families, and carers. Alice is responsible for developing nursingstaff through education programs and providing advanced clinical leadership in the management of life-limiting illnesses. She is currently pursuing a postgraduate certificate in palliative care through Flinders University, building on her Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Tasmania(2004-2006). Outside of work, Alice enjoys beach outings, swimming, traveling,and spending time with her husband Ashley, their two children, Henry and Matilda and dog Rosie. She is also an active member of Palliative Care Tasmania.

Jess Sanders - Manager of Grief and Loss Programs:

Jess Sanders is the Manager of Grief and Loss Programs at Palliative Care Tasmania.Jess comes from a social work and education background and is deeply committed to supporting young people. Jess has worked with young people in a variety of contexts including in schools, the youth justice system, and family violence services. She feels strongly that positive change starts with education and that unnecessary harm can be prevented through the sharing of stories, knowledge, and skills. 

PalHelp - Hospice Volunteer:

Palhelp is a volunteer hospice organisation in Southern Tasmania, whose mission is to provide compassionate support and care to individuals with life-limiting palliative conditions. They are committed to enhancing the quality of life for their clients, ensuring that they receive the companionship and assistance they need, whether at home, in the community, or healthcaresettings.

About the film

Ethan Sisser, a young man with terminal brain cancer, sits alone in his hospital room. Honoring Ethan's wish, his doctor Aditi Sethi transports him to an idyllic house in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. What unfolds next is a story rarely glimpsed: how a community of strangers helps a young man die with grace.

A sensory immersion into leaving the body, “The Last Ecstatic Days” reveals a man who will not let us forget him – even after he’s taken his final breath.
