About the event
Closing Credits: An End-of-Life Film Series concludes with a special screening of "The Last Ecstatic Days." Each film in the series offers a deep dive into different facets of the complex, beautiful, and humbling realm of death and dying.
(You are welcome to attend only one film if you missed the others)
Join us at The Center at Belvedere's Auditorium A for the screening, followed by an engaging discussion led by representatives from Hospice of the Piedmont, Panorama Natural Burial, and Woven Roots Collective. This is an opportunity to share your thoughts about the film, contemplate living and dying, discuss options for end-of-life care, and better understand after-death practices, funerals, and burials.
The film series will culminate in the second annual Death Fest: Gather, Grieve Grow, an all-day community gathering to explore the natural cycles of life and death on Sunday, Nov 3, at Montfair Resort Farm (White Hall, VA).
Closing Credits is a collaborative effort by Hospice of the Piedmont, Panorama Natural Burial, and Woven Roots Collective to foster open conversations about life's final chapter. Other films in the series include:
End Game: Tuesday, Aug 27 (6-8p) @ Central Library
A Family Undertaking: Wednesday, Sept 18 (6-8p) @ Gordon Avenue Library
Join us for an evening that promises to challenge, inspire, and perhaps even transform your perspective on life and death. This free, community-building event is open to all. Donations are gratefully accepted.
About the film
Ethan Sisser, a young man with terminal brain cancer, sits alone in his hospital room. When he starts livestreaming his death journey on social media, thousands of people around the world join to celebrate his courage. Still, Ethan envisions more – to teach the world how to die without fear. To do that, he needs to film his death.
Honoring Ethan's wish, his doctor Aditi Sethi transports him to an idyllic house in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. What unfolds next is a story rarely glimpsed: how a community of strangers helps a young man die with grace.
A sensory immersion into leaving the body, “The Last Ecstatic Days” reveals a man who will not let us forget him – even after he’s taken his final breath.
