This film is no longer available

About the film

On February 10th, 2015, it took a killer 36 seconds to extinguish the lives of three young, Muslim Americans in their home in Chapel Hill, NC. The film charts the victims’ families’ agonizing overnight pivot from trauma to advocacy as they struggle to prevent their loved ones’ deaths from being dismissed as the result of a random parking dispute.

This is a project about grace and the will to fight for the truth in the worst of circumstances.

What people are saying

“A wrenching new documentary… from director Tarek Albaba.”

Sarah Edwards

INDY WEEK

“The film’s timing is especially relevant in light of fighting in Gaza, the 2024 election and a resurgence in anti-Arab and anti-Muslim hate in the United States.”

Tammy Grubb

News & Observer

“The greatness of a country or culture can be measured unarguably by how its citizens treat one another. “36 Seconds: Portrait of a Hate Crime” is necessary viewing if we’re to be better in this respect.”
