About the film
Many people think they understand what’s going on in Israel and Palestine today, but are they right? And what does the story of how and why a century of violence started have to do with the West? Award-winning historical filmmaker Gillian Mosely is a British-American Jew who was raised Zionist. After discovering a close friend was Palestinian, she began to re-examine everything she had been taught. This inspired decades of research into Britain’s colonial legacy in Israel and Palestine, culminating in her 2022 documentary The Tinderbox. A rare and thought-provoking examination of both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian clash, from its catalyst to why it still rages, to what needs to happen for it to stop.

What people are saying
‘Gillian Mosely’s thoughtful movie about Israel/Palestine raises important issues and discusses the historical background going back to the British mandate after the first world war – it’s surprising how many British parliamentarians still behave as if all this has nothing to do with them. Above all, Mosely emphasises that eternal liberal imperative: that everyone involved should simply keep talking. (Continues)‘

‘The Tinderbox, a generous, personal essay documentary about the region's history and plenitude of perspectives nobly tries to wrap its arms around the whole lot.‘
